Lost and Found

Le Parisien Lost and Found office celebrated its 200th birthday last week...
The Service des Objets Trouves is one of the oldest Lost property offices in the world. It receives more than 900 objects a day - most of them being mobile phones, wallets, umbrellas, hats and other low value objects. Interestingly enough some high value objects that reside at the office include a 1kg solid gold bar, and a substantial number of diamonds. Finally many sentimentally priceless and rather unusual items include a wedding dress, a skull, dental plates, dentures, a dead lobster and - a macabre finding - funeral ashes from a cremated person...

Anyway, if you were in Paris and you lost anything ... at least you know where it is kept !

Blue and white... Greek colours!

Blue... the colour of the sea!
White...the colour of the traditional greek island houses!

A match made in heaven!

The following photos were taken in Psakoudia, (in Chalkidiki,Greece) after a sudden September thunderstorm. This Beach is where I grew up, where I played with my dog, where I caught my first fish...

Working with animals...

You know, it is so exciting to work in a lab... Especially when you work on Flies.
In a previous post I 've posted a mating pair of Drosophila melanogaster, the species I work on.
This time I am posting photos of a Diopsidae dipteran species, Cyrtodiopsis dalmani.

I found these images really beautiful, thus I am posting them...

Apparently, size (of their stalks, where their eyes are attached) DOES matter!!!
Did I mention that only male flies have this kind of head-morphology?

A bit of fly work...

50th Eurovision Song Contest

You either Love it or You loathe it...

This year's contest is held in Kiev, Ukraine.

The last 4 or 5 contests I 'd watched, I was in England, thus I became familiar to the Evil and Dark side of the official British commentator of the Eurovision Song contest, Mr. Terry Wogan.

Bookmakers around Europe suggest that Greek Contestant, Helena Paparizou (a regular on this blog) has been tipped as this year's number 1. At first I was afraid that Mr. Wogan would be rather nasty to her (like to anyone else) but I was relieved after he said that he will give Helena douze points...

Anyway, good luck to Helena, and happy name day for her ...

Democracy Spread...

US of A has just started a new crusade. It is called "Spreading Democracy". Its targeted countries are close neighbours either to the oil fields of several former Soviet countries, or the middle East (oil ???).

Nice job.

Democracy... now in a new spreadable formula!
Available only in participating countries.

Anyway, that's only My (humble) opinion. . . what do I know about politics!

ps. I am not trying to sensitise the readers to a more critical approach of the world. Or AM I ?

Just a great site... and it is on Blogger too!

I read about the Post a secret site while surfing on the net.
The way each one of us perceive the word SECRET is unique...almost artistic!

I am making my postcard right now...but it's a secret.

Story-telling always fascinated me

A frog's life...

For the past weeks frogs are everywhere:
On every newspaper, on every news agency site, on the tv and radio...

The first incident took place in an amusement park in Hamburg, Germany, where more than 1000 frogs had exploded (I don't think that it was a terrorism act, though)

The second incident took place in Lima, Peru. Apparently, there is a local urban myth insisting in the aphrodisiac properties of "an exotic sorbet"***. Instead of exotic mangos, pineapples and passion fruits many Perubian Bars whizzed Telmatobius frogs(!!!) to many extravagant, desperate and mainly weird customers.

French cuisine beware!

***I tried to find the recipe... but nothing came up! Sorry...
